Rain on your wedding day might not be part of your dream plan, and is probably the biggest dread as it's the only thing totally out of all our control, but other than it being a little disappointing I can guarantee you it won't affect your big day when you look back on it, other than to be a part of your story!!!!
It can actually add a beautiful and unique twist to your wedding photos! Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, think of it as a chance to capture some magical and unexpected moments. Giving us the chance to catch more of those striking church photos, or little nooks and crannies of our beautiful old castle venues that we might not otherwise have the time to explore, or moody bar shots that may not ordinarily make the agenda of the day, and we can't forget those truly stunning moody skies that only unpredictable weather days bring!!!! With the right mindset and a bit of creativity, rain can transform your wedding day photos into something truly unforgettable.
Here are some creative photography ideas to embrace the weather and make the most of a rainy wedding day.
Embrace the Umbrella Aesthetic
Umbrellas aren’t just practical; they can also be stylish props that add a whimsical touch to your photos. Opt for clear umbrellas that allow the rain to be visible without obstructing your faces, or white brollys. They create a beautiful effect with raindrops, allowing the focus to remain on you while still showcasing the weather.

2. Reflections and Puddles
Puddles might seem like an inconvenience, but they can be a photographer's best friend. Reflections in puddles create stunning, mirror-like images that add a dreamy quality to your photos. Capture a shot of the two of you reflected in the water, or even play with creative angles where only your reflection is in focus. The key here is to embrace the rain and let it work in your favor to create something uniquely beautiful.
3. Play with Raindrops
Raindrops glistening on surfaces, on your attire, or even in your hair can add a touch of romance to your photos. These details tell a story of the day as it truly was, capturing the natural beauty of the weather. Oh in the case of Rosaleen & Lee hang out in a rain soaked porsche and wait for the rain to pass, I coukd think of a lot of worse places to be !!!!

4. Dance in the Rain
Channel your inner romantic movie scene and share a dance in the rain. Whether it’s a slow, intimate dance or a joyful twirl, dancing in the rain can lead to some of the most heartwarming and candid shots of the day. Let go of the worry about getting wet; these moments will be some of the most cherished memories of your wedding day.
5. Moody and Dramatic Skies
Rainy days often come with dramatic, overcast skies that can create a stunning backdrop for your photos. Instead of blue skies, you’ll get moody clouds that add depth and drama to your images. Work with your photographer to capture wide-angle shots that include these powerful skies. The contrast between your wedding attire and the stormy sky can create a breathtaking effect.

6. Cozy Indoor Shots
Rain can also be an excuse to get cozy indoors. Capture intimate moments by the window as the rain falls outside, Indoor shots can be beautifully lit with natural light, creating a soft, warm atmosphere that feels romantic and personal.

7. Silhouette Shots
Rain can create fantastic opportunities for silhouette photography. Position yourselves against a light source like a street lamp or a window and let the rain frame your outline. Silhouettes against a rainy backdrop can add an artistic and almost cinematic quality to your photos, making them stand out from the usual wedding shots.

8. Capture the Chaos
Sometimes the best moments are the unplanned ones. Let your photographer capture the candid, chaotic moments—whether it’s your wedding dress getting splashed or guests huddling together under umbrellas. These are the memories that make your wedding day uniquely yours and tell the true story of the day.

9. Rain as a Symbol of Good Luck
Embrace the symbolism of rain as good luck on your wedding day. Many cultures believe that rain on your wedding day signifies cleansing, fertility, and a fresh start. Another belief ties in with the sentiment of tying the knot and that a wet knot is harder to untie, I had rain on my own wedding day so I'm all for believing these.
10. Just do you
Alot of the above would be so many (brides in particular) worst nightmare, with having spent a morning getting hair and makeup perfected, so if you don't want to dance in the rain then don't, embrace having car drivers, bridesmaids, photographers, hotel wedding co-ordinators all fuss over you, all ensuring you get from the car to inside the hotel door all without a single rain drop getting anywhere near you, then grab a glass of something bubbly and we'll go explore the beautiful venue you spent months or years dreaming about !!!!

Remember, at the end of the day, it’s not about the weather—it’s about the love you share and the moments you create together. Embrace everything that your day brings your way.
